Escalator/ Travelator Technician Mechanical, Existing Installation/ Maintenece Training

This training module is intended for technicians assigned the responsibility of operating, maintaining, and servicing escalators and travelators in a safe and efficient manner following the installation phase. This training will target only the safe operation of, on-site inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the mechanical systems. Mechanical systems will be explored with hands-on practical experience with components such as step chains, hand rails, balustrade, truss or sub-structure, rollers, drive chains & gears, and brake assemblies. The training will also show technicians the value of lubrication, alignment, and replacing worn parts and how overshadowed these things can be to keep equipment working smoothly and safely.

The overriding element with this training is safety, and as such compliance is stressed during training, which includes effective lockout/tag out, preventing accidents from happening and being ready for emergencies. Trainees will learn how to do extensive inspections for early warning signs of wear, noise, vibration, or alignment problems. By learning systematic maintenance practices, this type of emphasis will effectively reduce the amount of elevator downtime and extend its service life. Lastly, many technicians following this module would also need training with adequate record keeping, performing safety tests, and when should they work with engineers for modernizing or overhauling equipment. Ultimately, this module will provide the mechanical competencies to address practical real-world escalator and travelator maintenance problems while assuring passengers' reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance.
